Are Occupational Therapy services covered by insurance? Can you direct bill?
Alberta Health Services does not cover Occupational Therapy services. Individual extended health benefits providers vary depending on coverage based on your employer. You will want to contact your provider to determine if they cover OT.
YES!!! I can direct bill to FSCD.
How much does an assessment cost?
The cost varies, depending on the needs, extent, type of assessment needed, and type of documentation needed. The following can be used as a general guideline:
1-3 hours direct time with the family/child
1-2 hours indirect time (reviewing any previous reports or documents, scoring assessments, clinical interpretation, etc.)
2-4 hours documentation (summary and/or report)
NOTE: If the documentation needed is for family or personal use and a standardized assessment has not been completed, then the summary may be invoiced up to 1 hour.
How long will my child need treatment for?
Since length of treatment is dependent on areas of need and results of assessment, length of treatment will be recommended following the child's assessment. Treatment continues until the child's therapy goals are met and/or everyone involved is happy with the child's progress. Parents may discontinue treatment at any time.
Note: There is a 24 hour cancellation policy is in place.
How long are therapy treatment sessions?
Typically a session is 1 to 1.25 hours. During a treatment session there will be 45-60 minutes of direct time with 15-20 of follow up with the parent. NOTE: the follow up may occur as an email or phone call, which is included in billable time. Session length will be determined at time of scheduling and may need to be adjusted during the initial assessment visit.
What type of payment do you take?
E-transfers or cheques are accepted. At this time, credit cards are not able to be processed.
Can you provide services at our child's home or school?
Assessment and treatment will occur within your home or the community or via tele-health or phone consult. There may be a small charge for travel if you live in a surrounding community.
Do you take on FSCD contracts?
FSCD contracts are taken on a child-by-child basis. Further criteria to provide OT services for FSCD contracts are required. Please contact Krista Plosz directly by email or phone.
